Woven Legacies: Stories, Traditions, and the Material Culture of Appalachian Overshot Coverlets
Join us at the Floyd Center for the Arts on Wednesday, September 2 at 5:30 PM for a special presentation exploring the history, artistry, and stories woven into Appalachian overshot coverlets.
Presented by Ashley Webb, Woven Legacies: Stories, Traditions, and the Material Culture of Appalachian Overshot Coverlets will explore the rich Appalachian tradition of geometric woven coverlets and the mechanics, creativity, skill, and labor that went into creating a single coverlet.
Highlighting historic coverlets from the Old Church Gallery featured in the exhibition Strings Attached: The Enduring Appeal of Overshot Coverlets, Ashley will take a deeper look at the material culture of these treasured textiles. Through patterns, techniques, and the objects themselves, we'll discover stories of family, community, and identity and explore the enduring legacy of Appalachian weaving traditions.
