Fall Exhibitions Opening Reception: Saturday, October 3

Three New Exhibitions Open This Fall at the Floyd Center for the Arts
There is something new to discover in every gallery at the Floyd Center for the Arts this fall.
Opening October 3, three new exhibitions bring together the work of regional artists, the traditions and innovation of fiber arts, and the striking landscape photography of Caddo Lake.
We invite you to experience all three during our free Opening Reception on Saturday, October 3, from 4–6 PM. Meet participating artists, explore the galleries, enjoy complimentary light refreshments and a cash bar, and spend an evening celebrating art and creativity in our community.
All three exhibitions will remain on view through November 21, 2026.

New Works 2026 | Hayloft Gallery
Our annual New Works exhibition returns to the Hayloft Gallery with 65 works by 49 artists from across the region.
Featuring artwork created within the past two years, New Works 2026 offers a glimpse into what artists are exploring in their studios right now. Throughout the gallery, visitors will find artists experimenting with materials and processes, taking creative risks, developing new ideas, and finding fresh approaches to traditional forms.
Together, the 65 works reflect the variety of voices and creative practices found throughout our regional arts community.
This year’s exhibition was juried by Theresa Rykaczewski, an artist, curator, educator, and museum professional who currently serves as Art Museum Manager and Professor of Museum Studies at Radford University.
Rykaczewski has organized more than 100 exhibitions and public art installations featuring local, international, contemporary, and historical artists. Her own oil paintings have appeared in more than 50 juried exhibitions and are held in private and corporate collections.
First, Second, and Third Place awards will be presented, along with a People’s Choice Award selected by visitors.

Shared Threads: Fiber Processes Hand to Hand Falcon Gallery
Fiber is more than a material. It is a way of making, connecting, and preserving knowledge across generations.
Shared Threads: Fiber Processes Hand to Hand celebrates the artistry, skill, tradition, and innovation found within fiber arts. The exhibition brings together artists working through processes including weaving, quilting, spinning, knitting, crochet, felting, braiding, stitching, basket weaving, soft sculpture, and experimental fiber practices.
Visitors will find both finished pieces and works in progress, offering an opportunity to look beyond the finished object and consider how it was made.
That process is at the heart of Shared Threads. Many fiber traditions survive because knowledge has been shared from one maker to another, often quite literally hand to hand. At the same time, contemporary artists continue to reinterpret those processes, experiment with materials, and find new possibilities within longstanding traditions.
Together, these works celebrate the makers who preserve tradition, embrace innovation, and keep creative knowledge moving from one generation to the next.

Caddo Lake | Breezeway Gallery
In the Breezeway Gallery, Richmond-based photographer Pat Lawson takes visitors into the extraordinary landscape of Caddo Lake along the border of East Texas and Louisiana.
Dark water, towering cypress trees, and curtains of Spanish moss create a landscape that feels quiet, mysterious, and almost primeval. Through large-scale black-and-white photography, Lawson draws attention to the light, texture, reflections, and forms that give Caddo Lake its distinctive character.
Lawson’s photographic practice focuses primarily on people and landscapes. His work seeks to capture the character and circumstances of a subject with enough presence to invite the viewer into the scene.
Caddo Lake offers that invitation, transporting viewers into a landscape shaped by water, time, and the natural world.
