Floyd Living Traditions Festival – Indoor Stage Lineup

The Floyd Living Traditions Festival celebrates the rich heritage of Appalachian art, music, and dance — and the Indoor Stage at the Fallon Community Hall will be alive with performances, talks, and participatory activities all day long. From historical dance to inspiring artist talks, traditional music, and community dancing, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Indoor Stage Schedule
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Floyd Historical DancersStep back in time with demonstrations of traditional regional historical dances, complete with period dress and live music. The Floyd Historical Dancers will share historical context, offer instruction, and invite the audience to participate in the dancing.Be sure to also visit their demonstration booth in the outdoor area starting at 10:00 AM.

12:30 PM – 1:30 PM – Charlie Brouwer: Learning to See Again: Loss and Resilience
Renowned sculptor Charlie Brouwer shares his personal and artistic journey, reflecting on vision loss, resilience, and creativity. His story is one of hope, adaptation, and the enduring power of art.

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM – Sophie Moeckel with Music by The McKenziesAward-winning traditional singer and flatfoot dancer Sophie Moeckel will showcase flatfoot dance styles, enriched with cultural and historical context. She will also provide instruction and lead a lively “social dance” with audience members, accompanied by the dynamic music of The McKenzies.


3:30 PM – 4:30 PM – June Bug “JAM”sEnjoy a performance by the talented youth musicians from the June Bug Center’s “Junior Appalachian Musicians” program. The set list will be announced during the festival.

5:00 PM – 7:00 PM – The Contra Dancers with Music by The McKenzies & Caller George SegebadeThe evening kicks into high gear with demonstrations, instruction, and audience participation in traditional contra dance. After the festival hour, the Contra Dancers will continue their regular monthly dance from 7:00–9:00 PM — and all are welcome to join in.


The Indoor Stage is just one part of the Floyd Living Traditions Festival, which also features live outdoor music, craft demonstrations, hands-on activities, storytelling, gallery exhibitions, and more — all free and family-friendly.
