Floyd County Historical Society Presents: A History of the Extension Homemakers Council

Presented by Alexis Vest

The Floyd County Extension Homemakers Council has served the community since 1941. In this presentation, Alexis Vest explores the history of the organization, its goals, and the lasting impact it has had on Floyd County and its residents through education, service, and community building.

Floyd Historical Dancers

Celebrate America's 250th anniversary by stepping back into the 18th century with the Floyd Historical Dancers. Learn about the social traditions of early America through period dance demonstrations, then join in an interactive dance lesson and experience history firsthand.

2:30–3:30 PM

Handmade Music School Partner Dance Workshop

Join Garrett and Mary for an afternoon of community dancing featuring favorites such as the Charleston Bump, the 16-Step, and the Barn Dance. No experience or partner is required—everyone is welcome to participate.

4:00–5:00 PM and Beyond

Community Contra Dance

Presented by the Floyd Contra Dancers

End the festival dancing! The Floyd Contra Dancers invite visitors of all ages and experience levels to join an open community contra dance featuring live music by the McKenzies and calling by Thea Nettleton. No partner or previous experience is necessary.

Artist Talk in the Falcon Gallery

Artist Talk with Donald Sunshine

Visitors are also invited to the Falcon Gallery for a special artist talk with Donald Sunshine on his exhibition, Landmarks: The Rock Churches and the White Churches of the Blue Ridge.

Inspired by years of exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains, Sunshine's watercolor paintings celebrate the historic churches that have long served as landmarks and gathering places throughout the region. During this free talk, he will discuss the inspiration behind the exhibition, his artistic process, and his journey documenting these treasured community landmarks.
