Winter Exhibitions Reception Postponed

Due to inclement winter weather and school closures this week, our opening reception originally scheduled for Friday, December 12 has been postponed. With students out of school, many of our young artists have not yet had the opportunity to install their work. We appreciate your understanding as we adjust our plans to ensure these exhibitions are presented at their very best.

The opening reception will now take place on Friday, January 16 from 4 - 6 pm.

All exhibitions will be on view December 19, 2025 through January 24, 2026, and visitors are welcome to stop by during Gallery hours:

Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday • 12 - 5 pm

Saturday • 10 am - 5pm

This winter, the Floyd Center for the Arts is proud to present three engaging exhibitions celebrating youth creativity and local artistic talent:

Floyd County High School Art Exhibition | Hayloft GalleryEach winter, we highlight the extraordinary talent of Floyd County High School students. This year’s exhibition features more than 200 artworks created by over 100 students under the guidance of art teachers Aven Tanner and Sara Thompson. The exhibition includes painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, and clay works. Students also took part in curating and installing the exhibition, gaining valuable hands-on experience in professional exhibition practices.

Blue Mountain School Art Exhibition | Falcon GalleryThis vibrant exhibition showcases work by students at Blue Mountain School, a contemplative progressive school based in Floyd, Virginia. Over the past two months, students have explored color through process-based learning, experimenting with materials, color mixing, and creative expression. During the rescheduled reception, Blue Mountain School students will offer a musical performance at 4:30 pm in the Falcon Gallery.

What Strikes My Fancy | Breezeway GalleryThis solo exhibition features the photography of Jonathan Morisco, an award-winning teen photographer. Jonathan began taking photographs at just four years old after receiving a camera from his grandfather, capturing whatever caught his eye - from trains and cars to wildlife and landscapes. Now 14, Jonathan has received numerous awards at the Floyd County Fair, including the 2025 Grand Prize, and has recently become a published photographer. Several photographs in this exhibition were taken when he was only six years old, offering a remarkable look at his artistic growth over time.

We invite you to visit the Art Center this winter and join us in celebrating the creativity, dedication, and talent of our young artists and community. We look forward to welcoming you at the reception in January.
