Class Description
Class open to any and all skill levels within the field of clay. Every week I will demonstrate at least one thrown object on the pottery wheel. Some of the techniques we will explore, but are not limited to are; centering clay, throwing cylinders and bowls, splitting rims for the gallery of a lidded vessel and other lidded techniques, pulling handles for mugs and other vessels, throwing a variety of other functional ceramic forms including attachments. This class will teach the foundations of throwing and work on those skills to make more complicated forms on and off of the wheel and will help to support student directed concepts in clay.

About the Instructor
After finding clay in high school, Seth left his hometown of Boston, MA to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts in ceramics from Syracuse University in 2010. He spent the following three years apprenticing for master potter, Mark Hewitt in North Carolina. In 2013, Seth joined Andrea Denniston to assist 16 hands founding member Silvie Granatelli at her river house in Floyd, VA. Floyd magnetizes makers—offering the natural mountain beauty of the blue ridge, and a well-founded art, craft, food and music culture. The addition of their daughters Phebe and Olive, two dogs, a cat and chickens continues the shifting of work-life and directions in pottery work.
