Visible mending invites students to bring their own project to mend (worn jeans, a frayed shirt, etc.) and learn how to mend artfully. This class will teach students how to do basic hand-sewing techniques and creative patterns to revive a loved piece of clothing. After this class, students will be ready to tackle their own home mending projects!
I began sewing in my teens and eventually turned my skills into a home based design workroom making custom draperies and soft furnishing for designers and private clients. The design aspect of creating useful and artistic items from fabrics and leather has held my interest for years. Slow fashion and making my own clothes is also something that I enjoy and encourage others to participate in. Repurposing and upcycling are skills that I think everyone should practice and I encourage students to find and give new life to older materials reworked into artistic and utilitarian items. I have lived in Floyd with my husband and two dogs for nine years. I enjoy watercolor painting and gardening along with traveling and fly fishing.
