This introductory course will introduce students to the basics of machine sewing. Learn the ins and outs of your basic tools, terminology, the anatomy of the machine, and how to create a small sewn project. Machines will be provided.
I began sewing in my teens and eventually turned my skills into a home based design workroom making custom draperies and soft furnishing for designers and private clients. The design aspect of creating useful and artistic items from fabrics and leather has held my interest for years. Slow fashion and making my own clothes is also something that I enjoy and encourage others to participate in. Repurposing and upcycling are skills that I think everyone should practice and I encourage students to find and give new life to older materials reworked into artistic and utilitarian items. I have lived in Floyd with my husband and two dogs for nine years. I enjoy watercolor painting and gardening along with traveling and fly fishing.
