Viewpoints, an experimental method of dance composition and performance adapted by Anne Bogart, would allow theatre and dance practitioners to explore a new way of thinking about qualities of time and space to create dynamic performance pieces. This class would walk performers through the basics of Viewpoints with time for free exploration, group compositions, and reflection. Viewpoints is a method of performance that relies on risk-taking and bold choices and can shift the way a performer thinks about being in space with others in an exciting, dynamic, and community-focused way.
Lauren Ellis (she/her) is an award-winning director, stage manager, and playwright from Aiken, South Carolina. Her work spans multiple genres, but her main focus is in new works, primarily fostering female voices in the theatre. One of her main interests as a theatre artist is examining the theatre as a holistic practice and honoring the intersections of humanity in a space to create work that is empowering, moving, and deeply personal. Being a justice-centered artist, she has been devising new ways of creating theatre that reexamines hierarchies and centers care, compassion, and communal ownership. She graduated from the University of South Carolina-Aiken in 2014 with a Bachelor's degree in theatre (cum laude), and Hollins University with a Master's of Fine Arts in Playwriting in 2020 and a Certificate in New Play Directing in 2017. Lauren serves as the Chair of Playwriting for the Southeastern Theatre Conference and runs their Short Play Festival every year. She currently works at Piedmont Arts as their Programs and Public Relations Coordinator.
